As fall approaches and the leaves begin to turn and fall, take a moment to look at your own financial situation. Are there things that you pay for regularly that were once useful, but now aren't necessary? Was there something you joined or ordered on a whim that you really don't use anymore? Have you made progress in paying off old debt this past year?
Just as the trees renew themselves each year, we should take an opportunity annually to evaluate our own financial situations and to renew our commitments. God calls us to be good stewards of what He has given us, and we will be held accountable for how we use the resources He allows us to have. If there are areas where you feel you are being wasteful, this is a great time to get things back in line. Too often we run our finances on "auto-pilot" without double-checking our stewardship.
If you carry a weight from the past because you have never consistently tithed, now is the time to make that right. Ask God's forgiveness, and allow that burden to fall at His feet. Begin now tithing your income, and anticipate His blessing. It may be a monetary blessing, or He may choose to bless you in your relationships, your time, or in your job. He knows your needs, and He is always faithful.
As you pass a tree full of colorful leaves, remember to self-evaluate. Are you doing all you can for God with your finances? If there are things that need to go, let them fall. If there are things you need to do, do them and watch God bring you new life and hope!
